These are the top roles for 2026.

FROM THE FRONTIER By Rundown AI

AI dominates LinkedIn's list of fastest-growing jobs.

The state of the job market. 56% of professionals plan to job-hunt this year, but 76% say they don't feel prepared, according to LinkedIn’s Jobs on the Rise 2026 report.

With AI reshaping industries, unemployment at 4.4%, and hiring levels still sluggish, landing a new role in 2026 could be an uphill climb, but not every corner of the market is frozen, and some roles are still growing rapidly.

The AI takeover. AI currently claims four of the top five fastest-growing positions in America: AI Engineer (#1), AI Consultant (#2), Data Annotator (#4), and AI/ML Researcher (#5).

The lone outlier? New home sales specialist at #3. But not everyone on LinkedIn is chasing a corporate role.

The solo surge. Independent consultants (#7) and founders (#9) are also climbing the ranks, as professionals hedge against uncertainty by betting on themselves.

With traditional hiring slightly stalled, more people are building their own safety nets and monetizing their skills on their own terms.

The takeaway. The job market may be tough, but the signal from LinkedIn's data is clear: AI fluency is becoming a differentiator.

Whether you're engineering models, advising on implementation, or labelling training data, companies are looking for people who can help them navigate this new domain.

Thank you for reading,

Tim.
