Canadians aren’t travelling to the U.S. lately.

 Here are some of the main reasons more Canadians aren’t travelling to the U.S. lately: a mix of economics, politics, and changing attitudes seems to be at play.

Economic Headwinds;

The Canadian dollar has weakened, meaning everything in the U.S. looks more expensive for Canadians, lodging, food, car rentals, gas, etc.

Also, rising costs (inflation on travel‐adjacent things) are making cross-border trips less of a good deal.

Political Tensions, Policy & Perception.

There’s also been growing dissatisfaction over U.S. political rhetoric, trade policies, tariffs with Canada, and concerns about how travellers are treated at the border.

Many Canadians report feeling uneasy or unwelcome, which dampens plans to visit.

Travel behaviours Shifts.

Canadians are also increasingly opting for destinations closer to home, or “staycations,” or choosing places where their money goes further.

Travel agencies and airlines have noticed this: U.S. bound bookings are way down, while other countries or domestic options are getting more interest.

These factors combined are creating both a financial and emotional barrier.

Even when people might still want to visit, the cost + friction + concerns seem to push many to cancel, postpone, or replace U.S. trips.

Thank you for reading.

Tim.
