A lawsuit filed in Australia’s Highest Court
A ban that messes with Reddit's profits will see a lawsuit filed in Australia’s Highest Court to
overturn the country’s social media ban for kids under the age of 16, arguing that it violates the
constitutional right to free speech.
Come on, Reddit, get with the program.
The ban was demanded by the people of the world to protect their kids under the age of 16.
You're trying to reverse the people's demand because of a profit loss.
I think that is wrong, and so do a lot of other people who wanted this ruling.
A spokesperson for Wells said the Australian government was "on the side of Australian parents
and kids, not platforms," and would stand firm to protect young Australians from experiencing
harm on social media.
Health Minister Mark Butler said Reddit filed the lawsuit to protect profits, not young people's right to political expression, and we will fight this action every step of the way.
It is an action we saw time and time again by Big Tobacco against tobacco control, and we are seeing it now on some social media or big tech giants, he told reporters in Brisbane.
Tim.
